Our findings suggest a novel approach for nighttime agitation in persons with dementia: assessing for RLS and initiating interventions. Larger and longer trials are needed.

Treating RLS with gabapentin enacarbil significantly reduced nighttime agitation and improved sleep in dementia patients, suggesting RLS screening and treatment as a novel strategy for managing Alzheimer’s-related agitation.
